In recent decades, society has become increasingly dependent on digital and technological domains. Even traditional surveillance and monitoring technologies have undergone continuous digitization in the space field. Thus, disruptive developments could result from improving ties between the space and cyber domains.
By starting from the interconnections and similarities between the fourth and fifth warfare domains, the analysis shall examine the Russian attack on KA-SAT on February 24, 2022, before the start of the Ukrainian War, to demonstrate the principal vulnerabilities of the commercial aerospace sector.
Because of the subsequent damage spilled over into other countries – namely: Germany, France, Hungary, Greece, Italy, and Poland – European and Italian responses to ‘The application of the Law of States Responsibility to activities in cyberspace’ shall ultimately be considered.
